After making my first comment on GQmonk's post, I was encouraged to make my own post so here it goes.

Thought of the Day:

Is it just me or does any other guy think that Valentines day should be moved to a more sports-friendly time of the year. I know that football season just ended giving guys some more free time to spend on their valentines preparations but really, it would be better if it was placed about early to mid-July. This is the dead time of the year in terms of sports, no football, basketball and hockey playoffs just ended; the only thing going on is baseball which America is watching less and less and even if you are a fan of baseball, it is a 162 game regular season and you're right in the middle of it. That's the time of the year where you turn on the TV on weekends afternoon and realize, there really is nothing to watch and actually get some work done.

So, place Valentines day about mid-July, after basketball/hockey season but before fantasy football draft preparation period and that'll give us more time to prepare a more proper Valentines day.

Second point isn't backed up by statistical facts but purely based on empirical evidence and personal theory. It is the point that not only is summer more sports-fan friendly, but it is the time of the year when more people are "hooked up" and thus more able to enjoy this romantic holiday. You hear about people having summer-flings: I've never heard of the phrase winter-fling. It is the time of the year when people are throwing pool parties, boat parties and various other types of events where people are drunk and abound in half-nakedness. It's just the type of environment where you meet that someone "special".

Furthermore, middle of winter just doesn't say romantic to me. It's the time of the year when you're still trying to lose your fat from the holidays or the relationship that you had with that someone "special" you met while drunk and half-naked ended - some due to just chemistry, others, because you just didn't want to get them a gift for the holidays.

With such misplaced romantic holidays, is it a wonder divorce rates are well over 50% in America? Sure it would be difficult to move a national holiday, but it sure would be worth it.
